Phantoms
Quality assurance is of the utmost importance in diagnostic radiology and mammography. It is a way of maintaining standards in imaging, resulting in better diagnostic usefulness and working towards minimal doses for both patients and laboratory workers. Artinis delivers phantoms which can be used as part of a (daily) quality assurance program. Very useful Analyser software is developed for the automatic analysis of digital images of our phantoms. To find out more about our phantoms, please click at the menu at the left side or scroll down.
Scientific background
All our phantoms have a sound scientific background, based on the close co-operation of our company with the University Medical Centre Nijmegen in the Netherlands. The Department of Radiology and the Dutch National Expert and Training Centre for Breast Cancer Screening our well known for there scientific qualities. The CDMAM Analyser makes use of the EUREF software. The DIGIMAM was developed in co-operation with the physical-technical expert group of the European Breast Cancer Network. We also participate in European projects, in which new phantoms are being developed.
Specialties
If you need specialties, which are not part of our standard delivery program, do not hesitate to contact us. Our engineering department has an extensive knowledge in developing new phantoms as well as other products.
Distribution
Please, check the contact page for distributors.
Attenuation plates
The attenuation plates belonging to phantoms can be ordered separately. Different sizes, materials, extreme flat and polished plates are possible.
Breast Tomo Set
A test set for tomography systems. Currently the first Digital Breast Tomosynthesis systems are introduced on the market. A protocol for the quality control of the physical and technical aspects of Digital Breast Tomosynthesis and required QA phantom set was developed within the workpackage: “Technical Quality assurance in 3D mammography and contrast mammo-graphy” of the European HighREX project.
CDDENT 1.0
Also in dental radiology it is essential to maintain a constant quality. Based on our experience with contrast detail phantoms the Artinis CDDENT 1.0 phantom is developed. In this phantom objects with very small contrast and diameter are used. By using this phantom quality can be maintained through the years, and radiation dose versus image quality can be optimized.
CDDISC 2.0
The Artinis CDDISC 2.0 phantom is especially designed for the evaluation of fluoroscopes. With the CDDISC phantom it is possible to quantify both, detail and contrast, as observed by the radiologist. The principles of the phantom are equal to these of the CDRAD phantom.
CDMAM 3.4
In mammography it is essential that objects with very small contrast and diameter can be distinguished. Therefore the quality of the technical aspects of the mammography equipment should be monitored at regular time-intervals. The Artinis CDMAM 3.4 phantom is specially developed to facilitate this task in mammography systems, i.e. detecting very low contrast and detecting very small details. The CDMAM is considered to be the world gold standard and is described in the European Protocol for Digital Mammography.
CDMAM Analyser
A companion to the Artinis CDMAM phantom is the Artinis CDMAM Analyser program. This program has the ability to score digital images obtained with the CDMAM phantom automatically. It is a necessity for maintaining quality. The program is easy to use and gives the user reports of the quality of the images obtained. The phantom is scored using the CDCOM analysis core from EUREF.
CDRAD 2.0
Most definitions of image quality in radiology are based on characterizing the physical properties of the image chain. However, medical diagnosis is not made by the image alone. The perception by the observer is crucial for the result. A test of the observers perception is possible with so called Contrast-Detail (CD) phantoms.
CDRAD Analyser
A companion to the Artinis CDRAD phantom is the Artinis CD Analyser program. This program has the ability to score digital images obtained with the CDRAD phantom automatically. Its a necessity for maintaining quality. The program is easy to use and gives the user reports of the quality of the mages obtained.
CEDM phantom
The CEDM phantom is developed for quality control of enhanced contrast imaging techniques. The phantom is used for detection of small detail marked by the contrast fluid system. Also detection of contrast differences between different contrast fluid concentrations can be tested with this phantom.
DIGIMAM 1.0
The Artinis DIGIMAM 1.0 phantom is designed for digital mammography. The phantom was developed in close co-operation with the physical-technical quality group of the European Breast Cancer Network and complies with the European Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Digital Mammo-graphy Screening.
Distortion phantom
The (Geometric) Distortion phantom contains a wire mesh of horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines (45o). The dimensions of the phantom are 320 x 260 mm. For tomography systems a special low contrast 3D geometric distortion phantom is available.
EU Test set
The EU Test Set has been produced according to the descriptions of the fourth edition of the European Guidelines for quality assurance in breast cancer screening and diagnosis chapter 2b “Digital Mammography” and the EUREF type testing protocol version 1. All tests described in the guidelines can be performed with this set and the CDMAM phantom.
Filters and foils
We can supply different filters and foils of different materials, dimensions and thicknesses.
Homogeneous block
The homogeneneous block phantom is a polished PMMA block with extreme flatness used for several tests in the European Guidelines for Quality assurance in mammography.
Intra Oral QC Kit
This set of phantoms is designed for quality control of dental systems. It complies with the Belgium criteria of acceptability for dental x-ray machines for diagnostic purposes.
MTF Tool
The MTF Tool is designed for the measurement of the spatial resolution of radiology and mammography systems.
PASMAM
This phantom is developed according to the German PAS 1054 guidelines. It contains various elements.
QAMAM 4.0
The Artinis QAMAM 4.0 is the successor of the popular QAMAM 3.0 phantom, or sometimes called the Euro-phantom by others. The phantom fully complies the European guidelines.
Resolution patterns
Artinis Medical Systems offers resolution and calibration standard test patterns for calibrating and evaluating the spatial resolution and performance of X-ray imaging systems and mammography systems. The choice of pattern depends on the specific application. Also the MTF Tool can be used for measurement of resolution.
Step wedges
Step wedges are used for calibration of mammography, radiology and fluoroscopy machines and evaluation of techniques. The step wedges can be used to show that machines are able to image different tissue thicknesses.
X-ray ruler
The X-ray ruler has a measurement range from 5 cm to -5 cm with a resolution of 1 mm. The rulers are available for conventional mammography systems and tomosynthesis systems. The X-ray rulers are delivered per set of 4 pieces.
