CEDM phantom

... Contrast Detail evaluation for Enhanced Contrast Systems ...

Introduction

CEDM Phantom

The CEDM phantom is developed for quality control of enhanced contrast imaging techniques. The phantom is used for detection of small detail marked by the contrast fluid system. Also detection of contrast differences between different contrast fluid concentrations can be tested with this phantom.

Construction

The phantom consists of 5 cavities in the range of 15 to 1 mm diameter. The diameters of the cavities in this phantom are chosen so that they correspond to the tumor sizes that our typically found within the Dutch mammography screening (Racheboud et al. 2009) and are 15, 10, 5, 2 and 1 mm. The phantom dimensions are 120 x 48 x 20 mm. The phantom is made of PMMA.

The phantom can also be used for radiology, fluoroscopy, CT and other techniques. The cavities can be filled with a mixture of contrast agent and saline using an injection needle.
