Supported NIRS devices for our elevated OxySoft 4.0

We continuously strive to improve our devices and software to facilitate NIRS data acquisition and analysis and to incorporate the latest trends. Thus, we recently released our latest software version OxySoft 4.0.

In this blog post, we discuss which Artinis devices are supported in OxySoft version 4.0 and higher.

Brite Family

The Brite family is a group of portable functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) devices that enhance flexibility and accuracy to fit every research purpose. All devices include superior features to maximize signal quality and measurement possibilities. They come with multi-power gain control and ambient light protection to enable optimal data quality in subjects of different ages and skin types as well as in any cortical measurement area. Further, the Brite family systems are equipped with an inertial measurement unit (IMU) that can measure movement data simultaneously with NIRS data.

The Brite family incorporates products to measure brain activity in subjects of all ages and in every possible brain area: from our most versatile and completely portable 27-channel Brite to devices optimized for the prefrontal cortex, over the BabyBrite which is specially designed to provide comfort for babies aged 0 to 1.5 years - the Brite family offers the perfect solution for every research.

PortaLite MKII

The PortaLite MKII is a portable NIRS device with two detachable sensors to measure oxygenation in the brain or muscle. Each sensor comes with six channels, three long and three short separation channels, to measure relative concentration changes in oxy- and deoxy hemoglobin, as well as the tissue saturation index (TSI). Using two sensors, the PortaLite MKII enables easy monitoring of different sites simultaneously, for instance, brain and muscle, or both brain hemispheres.

PortaSync

The PortaSync MKIII is our latest trigger device with enhanced features to facilitate and improve the synchronization of NIRS data with other data streams in a multi-modal setup. The PortaSync MKIII provides a sample rate of 100 Hz leading to a temporal resolution of 0.01 s to reduce delays. Further, it is possible to automatically generate events when pressing the two output trigger buttons.

Further, the PortaSnyc MKII is supported in our latest OxySoft version 4.0 to enable updating to version 4.0 and higher in case of using Brite / PortaLite MKII and PortaSync MKII.

fNIRS - EEG combination

To get the best of both worlds, fNIRS can be combined with EEG to get a complete picture of the brain’s activity. To provide a high-quality and portable fNIRS-EEG set-up, we collaborate, amongst others, with TMSi. OxySoft 4.0 offers native support for the TMSi APEX and SAGA devices, making it possible to display both data streams in OxySoft and synchronize the data easily. Therefore, Lab Streaming Layer (LSL) is used, which can be used in OxySoft 4.0 and higher, also for streaming in and out other data and triggers acquired by third-party software.

📝 Please note that OctaMon (mini), OctaMon+, OctaMon M, OxyMon, PortaMon MKII and PortaLite (mini) MKI, as well as older TMSi devices are NOT supported in OxySoft 4.0. Hence, performing data acquisition with these devices in OxySoft version 4.0 is not possible.
