Webinar Series
fNIRS-BCI: Methodology and (clinical) application possibilities
By Dr. Bettina Sorger & Dr. Franziska Klein
Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) create direct communication between brain activity and external devices, such as computers, enabling control these external devices using brain activity in real-time. In recent years fNIRS-based BCI is increasingly used in various application areas, also in clinical settings, for instance in (neuro)rehabilitation or treatment of disorders.
In this two-parts webinar series, Dr. Bettina Sorger from University of Maastricht, the Netherlands and Dr. Franziska Klein from OFFIS, Oldenburg, Germany will first introduce the basic setup of fNIRS-BCI and online real-time analysis, as well as advantages and considerations of fNIRS-BCI compared to other modalities. In a second talk, they will focus on application of fNIRS-BCI in a clinical context especially for neurofeedback training in patients with neurological and psychiatric disoders. Both webinars will include practical online demonstrations of fNIRS-BCI as well as Q&A sessions for life interaction.
All (f)NIRS enthusiasts are welcome to join!

speaker information
Dr. Bettina Sorger is currently working as an Associate Professor at Maastricht University. Dr. Franziska Klein currently holds a position as senior researcher at OFFIS in Oldenburg. Both their research focusses on the development of methods for brain-computer interface and neurofeedback based on brain activity measured with non-invasive neuroimaging tools such as fNIRS and fMRI.
